Vote by Mail or Drop Box in 2024

Election Day is Tues. Nov. 5, 2024.

Two elections---city election and general election (president, senator, etc).   Two ballots.  Two voting procedures. Be sure to vote both ballots!

City ballots have been mailed directly to all registered voters in mid-October. If you have not gotten yours, call the City election line 301-891-7252 for a replacement (you pick it up).

Use this interactive map to check which ward you are in. Ward boundaries shifted slightly based on the 2020 US Census.

City Ballot Drop Boxes are open 24-7 through Nov. 5, at the community center on Maple Ave outside lower level and at the New Hampshire Ave recreation center. Or postmark your city ballot by Nov. 5 and it will be counted. Only one City poll will be open on Election Day, 7am-8pm at the community center on Maple Ave, and parking will be very limited.

If you still need a ballot, or to register to vote, call the City election line and see if you can get that done before Nov. 5.

16 and 17 Year Old Voters

You can still register with the City and pick up a ballot packet, all in one visit before election day (as well as the day of). Beat the rush!  Fill out the PDF form, print, sign and date. Return to city clerk as form directs.  Call the city election line at 301-891-7252 or drop in during business hours to the city clerk's office, 3rd floor, to get your ballot.

Register to Vote the City Election!

Both US citizens and non-citizens, who are 16 years old or older, can vote in City elections.

If you’re registered for the general election with the county, you’re registered in the city election.  Or go online to www.777.VOTE.ORG to register.

Register with the City directly if you’re not eligible for county registration--https://takomaparkmd.gov/news/city-election-information/voter-registration-information/ or contact city clerk at elections@takomaparkmd.gov or call 301-891-6267.

General Election Voting

  • Early voting for the general election is Oct. 24-Oct. 31, 7am-8pm. Nearest place is Silver Spring Civic Center
  • On Election Day, Tues. Nov. 5, regular polling places will be open 7am-8pm.  Find your polling place at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/PollingPlaces
  • Review your current voter registration record at Voter Lookup or text CHECK to 77788. All paper forms and web links are also available at 777VOTE.ORG.

Instant Runoff (Ranked Choice) Voting

City Elections with more than 2 candidates use Instant Runoff Voting (also known as Ranked Choice Voting), such as for Mayor in 2022.   It was applied in the 2017 city election for ward 2, which had 3 candidates. You as a voter can vote a first choice AND a second choice. If no one candidate gets 50% of more of the first-ballot vote, the candidate with the least number of votes is eliminated, and the second choice votes for that candidate are then counted. If the candidate that's dropped is your first choice, then your second choice vote will count. More details are on the FairVote website.
